One of the most acclaimed design pieces in the world, the Proust armchair by Alessandro Mendini was launched in 1978, when it was used to furnish the Palazzo dei Diamanti, in Ferrara during an exhibition entitled “Incontri ravvicinati di architettura” (Close encounters of architecture). Shortly thereafter, the piece’s postmodern appeal captured the attention of connoisseurs and design insiders on an international scale. This new edition of the iconic armchair has the traditional hand-carved and hand-painted wood frame with a fixed cover made of multicolour fabric that echoes the frame decor.
Le fauteuil Proust d’Alessandro Mendini, l’une des pièces de design les plus célèbres au monde, a fait ses débuts en 1978 comme meuble pour le Palazzo dei Diamanti à Ferrara à l’occasion d’une exposition intitulée « Rencontres étroites d’architecture » et, en peu de temps, son âme postmoderne a attiré l’attention des amateurs et des experts à l’échelle internationale.Cette réédition du fauteuil iconique présente la structure traditionnelle en bois sculptée et peinte à la main, avec un rembourrage fixe en tissu multicolore qui fait écho à la décoration de la structure elle-même.

The Milanese architect and designer, Alessandro Mendini, focuses predominantly on neo-modern and contemporary design.The core of his research is design: furniture, interiors, architecture and installations. The common thread behind the multitude of Mendini’s projects is his eccentric flair for pairing contrasting elements and re-elaborating themes and ideas that appear antithetical. In collaboration with Alessi, Philips, Swarovski and Swatch, he has designed iconic pieces that have enriched the international design panorama. For the Cappellini catalogue, Mendini has made the Proust armchair and the new version with renovated upholstery, Proust Geometrica. He has served as director for magazines such as Casabella, Modo and Domus, and his designs and those of Atelier Mendini, which he founded with his brother Francesco, have been published in numerous monographic volumes in multiple languages.In 1979 and 1981, he was awarded the Compasso d’oro in design; he is a « Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” in France; he has received the honorary recognition from the Architectural League of New York and a Laurea Honoris Causa from the Polytechnic of Milan and the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan, in France.
Architecte et designer milanais, Alessandro Mendini est principalement impliqué dans le design néo-moderne et contemporain. Ses recherches portent sur la conception du mobilier, des environnements, de l’architecture et des installations. La choralité des projets réalisés par Mendini a comme trait d’union un goût excentrique pour la juxtaposition d’éléments contrastés et le remaniement d’idées et d’idées apparemment antagonistes. En collaboration avec Alessi, Philips, Swarovski et Swatch, il a conçu des pièces iconiques qui ont enrichi la scène mondiale du design. Pour le catalogue Cappellini, Mendini crée le fauteuil Proust et sa version renouvelée dans le rembourrage, Proust Geometrica.
