Descritpion:
The Sirfo coffee table was designed by the famous Italian designer/architect Alessandro Mendini who was a fundamental representative of the postmodern movement. This coffee table was designed for Zanotta’s « Edizioni » collection and our article bears the sign of Alessandro Mendini. The structure is made of sandblasted cast aluminium in natural colour, with a « spout » painted in yellow. The top is in 6 mm thick tempered glass. About the « Edizoni » collection (1984) ; It is a collection of design furniture between art and design; all these objects are signed and some are numbered.
Le guéridon Sirfo a été conçue par le célèbre designer/architecte italien Alessandro Mendini qui a été un représentant fondamental du mouvement postmoderne. Cette table basse a été conçue pour la collection « Edizioni » de Zanotta et notre article porte le signe d’Alessandro Mendini. La structure est en fonte d’aluminium sablé de couleur naturelle, avec un « bec » peint en jaune. Le plateau est en verre trempé de 6 mm d’épaisseur. The Milanese architect and designer, Alessandro Mendini, focuses predominantly on neo-modern and contemporary design.The core of his research is design: furniture, interiors, architecture and installations. The common thread behind the multitude of Mendini’s projects is his eccentric flair for pairing contrasting elements and re-elaborating themes and ideas that appear antithetical. In collaboration with Alessi, Philips, Swarovski and Swatch, he has designed iconic pieces that have enriched the international design panorama. For the Cappellini catalogue, Mendini has made the Proust armchair and the new version with renovated upholstery, Proust Geometrica.He has served as director for magazines such as Casabella, Modo and Domus, and his designs and those of Atelier Mendini, which he founded with his brother Francesco, have been published in numerous monographic volumes in multiple languages.In 1979 and 1981, he was awarded the Compasso d’oro in design; he is a « Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” in France; he has received the honorary recognition from the Architectural League of New York and a Laurea Honoris Causa from the Polytechnic of Milan and the École Normale Supérieure de Cachan, in France.
